Comet

Halley's Comet

The comet that returns about every 76 years

Description

1P/Halley is the most famous periodic comet, observed and recorded for more than two thousand years. In 1986 ESA's Giotto probe imaged its nucleus from under 600 km, revealing a very dark surface.

The Eta Aquariid (May) and Orionid (October) meteor showers come from its debris.
